Introduction

Foldermate ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our Chrome extension and related services. We believe in complete transparency about our data practices.

What Foldermate Does

Foldermate is a browser extension that helps you organize AI conversations on ChatGPT, Gemini, and Grok, and provides tools to save, manage, and enhance your prompts. We offer both free and Pro features:

Data We Collect

Free Users

For free users, we collect no personal data. All folder structures, chat assignments, and custom prompts are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. This data never leaves your device.

• • Chat assignments: Stored locally only
• • Custom prompts: Stored locally only
• • Prompt Enhancement usage count: Tracked server-side anonymously using a device-generated anonymous ID to enforce the 5-credit free limit. No personal data is linked to this ID.
• • Chat content: We NEVER access or store your actual chat conversations

Pro Users

For Pro users who opt into cloud sync, we collect and store:

• • Email address: For account authentication and communication
• • Password: Securely hashed, never stored in plain text
• • Folder structure: Names and hierarchy of your folders
• • Chat metadata: Chat IDs and folder assignments (NOT chat content)
• • Custom prompts: Prompt titles, content, and folder assignments you choose to save
• • Prompt Enhancement history: The original and enhanced versions of prompts you enhance, stored for your reference and synced across devices. You can delete this history at any time.
• • Prompt Enhancement usage: Credit usage count per billing cycle, linked to your account to enforce the 120 credits/month limit
• • Device information: Browser type and device identifier for sync (up to 5 devices)
• • Payment information: Processed securely by Dodo Payments (we don't store card details)

Prompt Enhancement — How It Works

The Prompt Enhancement feature sends your prompt text to our server, which forwards it to Google's Gemini AI API to generate an improved version. The following applies:

• • Your prompt text is transmitted to our server and to Google's Gemini API solely to generate the enhancement. It is not stored permanently on our servers after processing, except as part of your Enhancement History (Pro users only).
• • Free users: Prompt text is processed and returned. It is not stored. Usage is tracked anonymously by device ID.
• • Pro users: Prompt text and the enhanced result are stored in your Enhancement History, which you can view and delete at any time from within the extension.
• • Credit system: Quick Refine costs 1 credit. Custom Enhancement costs 1.5 credits (0.5 for question generation + 1 for the final enhanced prompt). Credits reset monthly for Pro users.
• • Abuse prevention: We use device fingerprinting and anonymous IDs to prevent free-tier abuse. No personal data is collected for this purpose.
• • Google Gemini API: Prompt data is processed by Google under their API terms. We recommend not submitting sensitive personal information in prompts you enhance.

Prompt Library — How It Works

The Prompt Library allows you to browse, save, and use prompts directly within supported AI platforms.

• • Free library prompts are bundled with the extension and stored locally. No server request is made to access them.
• • Premium library prompts (Pro) are fetched from our server on demand. Your account credentials are verified before content is returned. Premium prompt content is never stored in the extension bundle.
• • Custom prompts you create are stored locally (free) or synced to our servers (Pro). The content of your custom prompts is yours — we do not use it for any purpose other than syncing it back to your devices.

How We Use Your Data

• Authentication: To verify your identity and manage your Pro subscription
• Cloud Sync: To synchronize your folder structure, custom prompts, and enhancement history across your devices
• Prompt Enhancement: To process your prompts through our AI pipeline and return improved versions
• Usage Limits: To enforce free-tier and Pro credit limits fairly
• Service Communication: To send important updates about your account or service changes
• Support: To help resolve any issues you report

Usage Limits & Fair Use

To ensure fair access for all users, we enforce the following limits:

• • Free users: 5 Prompt Enhancement credits total (not per month). Tracked by anonymous device ID.
• • Pro users: 120 Prompt Enhancement credits per month, resetting at the start of each billing cycle.
• • Abuse prevention: We use device fingerprinting to detect and block attempts to circumvent free-tier limits by generating multiple anonymous IDs from the same device. This data is not linked to any personal identity.
• • Rate limiting: API requests are rate-limited by IP address to prevent automated abuse.

Data Storage & Security

• Local Data (Free): Stored in Chrome's local storage, encrypted by your browser
• Cloud Data (Pro): Stored on Supabase servers with row-level security — each user can only access their own data
• Passwords: Hashed using industry-standard algorithms, never stored in plain text
• API Communication: All data transmitted over HTTPS with TLS encryption
• Authentication: Secured with HMAC-SHA256 signed tokens with expiry
• Premium Prompt Content: Stored server-side only, never in the extension bundle, gated behind subscription verification on every request

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Supabase: Database and authentication (Pro users only)
• Google Gemini API: AI processing for Prompt Enhancement. Prompts you submit for enhancement are processed by Google under their API terms of service.
• Dodo Payments: Payment processing for Pro subscriptions
• Resend: Transactional emails (payment confirmations, account notifications)
• Vercel: Hosting for our web application and API

Each service has their own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.

Data Retention

• Free Users: Local data persists in your browser until you clear it or uninstall the extension. Anonymous usage data is retained for abuse detection purposes.
• Pro Users: Data retained while your subscription is active. Upon cancellation, data is retained for 30 days then permanently deleted.
• Enhancement History: Retained until you delete it from within the extension, or until your account is deleted.
• Account Deletion: You can request complete data deletion by contacting us or using the Delete Account option in your account settings.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• • Withdraw consent for data processing
• • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

Children's Privacy

Foldermate is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we will send an email notification to Pro users.
